Their whole strategy is to not only gut the unions but layoff state workers in order to drive up the unemployment rate going into a presidential election year. This way they forfeit the livelihood of middle class Americans, make the poor poorer all so they can win back the White House and the Senate. And to do what exactly....drive us back into the dark ages with their views on religion, science, continue to ruin the environment and bankrupt the country like their buddy George W did? Gee despite the bitter cold winters in Canada moving there may not be a bad idea if these fundamentalists get their way.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04238066417284571261noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7532886289525722919.post-58996815634568942622010-09-07T07:02:15.720-07:002010-09-07T07:02:15.720-07:00Joy, I just read this and wanted to tell you how m...Joy, I just read this and wanted to tell you how moved I was. They were representing their country on an international level. This wasn't a school yard game. There is no room for slack. And Silver is nothing to sneeze at. It's still a medal. They lost one game. They still beat everyone else but Canada. That is still something to be proud of. It didn't "suck". They can be disappointed. Give the kid a break. She was just ...Oh, stop it. Give the kid a break. She was just disappointed at losing, that's all. When you work that hard to reach the top and fail, it hurts. Cut her a little slack and don't make a federal case out of her comment.

When you think about it, she's right. You don't get a silver medal or trophy for winning, you get it because you lost. That is the memory you have, losing your last game, and that is what sucks. It's a cruel outcome of the single elimination, tournament-style format. When you make it all the way to the championship game, it an unfortunate fact of life that for one there is elation and for another there is disappointment beyond measure that no consolation prize will assuage. So let the winners have their moment, and give the losers a little room to express a little grieving. I loved Obama's speech last night...much needed theme of hope with plenty of reality still included.

Speaking of themes, and your blog's Boomer theme, it is relevant to note that as many nationally influential voices have repeatedly noted, Obama--born 1961--is part of Generation Jones, born 1954-1965, between the Boomers and Generation X. Many top publications and networks (Washington Post, Time magazine, NBC, Newsweek, ABC, etc.) specifically use this term to describe Obama.

Here's an op-ed on Obama as the first Generation Jones President in USA TODAY just a few weeks ago:
http://www.usatoday.com/printedition/news/20090127/column27_st.art.htmConnectingTheDotshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03953576515209737142noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7532886289525722919.post-3308968816557262462009-01-19T12:42:00.000-08:002009-01-19T12:42:00.000-08:00I agree, I hate that word, senior. I don't need much back patting to keep me working. To be honest, I don't guess I need any. I never think of age and I don't want to be labeled as "a woman over 50." In fact, I really don't want to bee labeled at all. I am just me, working as hard as I ever did in my '40s. I don't have a full-time job but I am working on several projects. It's not hard to find some place where you can put your energies and help mankind. I've just signed up to be a part of writing the history of the Windtu Indian Tribe in northern California. I don't know if I'll get paid, but I'll be making a difference and, at last, the real history of this formidable tribe will go into the history books. I don't want to be a part of any group that exists to make each other feel good. My work does that for me.J.Normanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13345371111877171215noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7532886289525722919.post-40445661379115717562008-04-22T23:35:00.000-07:002008-04-22T23:35:00.000-07:00Hello.
